Action Heroes: In Our Hearts. Always

There’s a familiar feeling that comes when you finish a great story. You close the book. The credits roll. The game fades out. And for a moment there’s a quiet question:

“Where do our heroes go when the story ends?”

The heroes you spent hours with. The ones you fought beside, worried about, rooted for. For a while they felt almost real. “Action Heroes” begins with exactly that thought:

Where do our heroes go when the story ends?

The song circles around that question and offers a few different ways to look at it.

Stories do something real life can’t. They hold a moment open. Close the book, pause the game, shut down the console — the story just waits. Whenever you want, you can press start again.

But the song doesn’t leave the heroes on the page. It moves them into the room. There’s a very familiar image: a glow in a dark bedroom. Maybe it’s a screen. Maybe it’s a flashlight under the covers. That small pool of light where a story lives while the rest of the world goes quiet.

That’s where the heroes are too. They’re not just waiting somewhere inside a book or game. They’re right there while you’re reading, watching, playing — keeping you company in that little circle of light.

“Just come and visit us sometimes” doesn’t sound like a farewell.
It sounds more like an open door.

Some stories shape people in quiet ways. And eventually those same stories get passed along. Someone shows a child a favorite book. Or they show a movie they loved growing up. Or they share a game that once felt magical.

Then the heroes walk those roads again, with your kids.

The heroes started on the page. Then they sat beside you in the glow of the story. Now they travel with you wherever you go.

Synthpop always carries a strange sense of time. It sounds a little nostalgic and a little futuristic at the same time — warm analog sounds wrapped in electronics. A lot of the worlds and heroes we think about here were born in that same era. So the genre itself feels like a place you can return to.

The word pretend doesn’t really mean make-believe.
It’s how our action heroes stay alive.

Lyrics
Where do our heroes go when the story ends
Far away? Ever after? Let's pretend

We’re here with you, we’re all around
In every story, in every sound
We rise, we fall, we cross the line
We never sleep, we never die

Just open books. Frodo still bears the ring
Batman chasing Joker, on the wings
Kratos stands where he first drew his blades
Every choice he made, every debt repaid

Press start again. Samus strikes Ridley tonight
That battle burns eternal, blazing fierce and bright

We stand with you, light up your nights
Through every page, through every fight
Always standing by your side
Just come and visit us sometimes

Geralt chose the lesser evil, held his ground
Luke found good in Vader’s heart, the light he found
Whispers in the night still guide what you do
They made us who we are—and now they speak to you

We’re here with you, through dark and light
We never fade, forever bright
As long as you keep us alive
Just come and visit us sometimes

The boy who survived, where magic flows
Trinity trusted Neo, tale as it goes

Leading new children down roads first walked in youth
Showing them wonder, guiding them to truth

We’re here with you, through night and day
Turn the page, press play, we stay
We rise, we shine, we never part
As long as you hold us in your heart
As long as you hold us in your heart
